I am also reminded of a song by a friend of mine named Jimmy Adams, called "Big Ol' Red Guitar", about a kid who sees a red guitar in a shop window and dreams of becoming a musician. A few of the lines:

"He'll probably pawn it a hundred times,
Be involved in a couple of crimes,
He don't know what that guitar's got in store…"

And later:

"He'll probably go through two or three wives,
Ruin a whole bunch of children's lives…"
