@sumudu I always accept meeting requests as "tentative," and I skip as many as possible. In practice, I only attend meetings where I'm absolutely required to be there. It's the only way I can get any work done.

@matigo
Back from Los Angeles. Visit went well, glad we made it, but have a lot to process. Highlight of the day was seeing my cousin light up when my mom walked in. "AUNT DOTTIE!!!" ?
@hazardwarning In our case, it's all up to my nephew Alan. My older nephew is my brother's stepson (although he considers my brother to be his dad), so his last name is different.

@hazardwarning Thank you. This will be the third cousin I've buried—one was an early AIDS victim almost 30 years ago, and the second was his brother, who died of a sudden heart attack several years ago. Both of their parents are gone, so that's one entire family that's no longer with us, as neither of them had children.
Much of the mortality in my family has its roots in smoking and alcohol abuse, which is one reason I gave both up 20 years ago. As it is, I'm currently the oldest living male Anderson in the family, and once my mom passes, I'll be the patriarch. It's strange.

@matigo Yeah. Looks like I'll be driving down to Los Angeles tomorrow. At least the call wasn't to tell me about funeral arrangements. But this does mean that all the cousins I grew up with, except one, will be gone. It's hard to process.
Just got a phone call. My oldest remaining cousin (of which I only have two left on my father's side) is dying of liver cancer. Days to live.
Goddammit.
@matigo Sign-in is already broken on v5. No matter how many times I authenticate, I still see the sign-in button at me.larry.im.
"Now he has chosen to give up some of his independence and will have a driver from this point on."
I'm not sure that "Jeeves, have the Bentley brought around—no wait, make it the Daimler" qualifies as giving up independence. ?
