@kdfrawg It is. There are four fires in Santa Barbara County alone--the Wall Fire, the Alamo Fire, the Whittier Fire, and the Stone Fire.

@kdfrawg Last update I saw had it at 7800 acres. It's burning westward (remember the beaches are south-facing in this part of California) but is still at only 5% containment. It generated a pyrocumulus cloud and there was actually a bit of rain this morning, not enough to really do any good.

Not unusual for California after a heavy rainy season. Lots of rain = lots of brush growth, so lots of fuel for fire. Then the fires come, and burn it away, so we get mudslides when the next rains come. Life in paradise. ¯\(ツ)

Looks like the Whittier Fire (near Santa Barbara) is up to 7800 acres (31.56 sq. km) this morning, per the folks at Los Padres National Forest.

I'm a long way away. The blue dot is my house, the pin is the approximate location of the fire. The smoke plume is visible all over the county, though.

It's very Not Good. Wind gusts are increasing, too. Gonna be a long night for firefighters and residents.

Massive out-of-control fire burning right now between Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara, in an area that hasn't burned since 1955. 3300 acres and 0% containment, it's crested the mountains above Goleta (next to Santa Barbara), and they're predicting sundowner winds tonight, which could sweep the fire down the mountains into populated areas. Sweet holy Jesus.

Update: Fire now at 5400 acres.

This is not the weather I ordered.

@kdfrawg I've been reading the Expanse series by the pseudonymous James S.A. Corey. Good stuff.
