I once read that even with overlays and such, we're going to have a problem in the United States in another 10-20 years, and will have to go to 11- or 12-digit numbers.

//

Having just purchased a new-to-me used car, I sympathize.

We're about to get an overlay area code (820) for new phones/devices in addition to the existing 805 area code. The 805 area code was split from the 213 (Los Angeles) area code back in the 1950s. About twenty years ago, they split the 805 and created the 661 area code in the eastern part of the area.

Oddly, because of the presence of the Pacific Missile Test Center in Ventura County, we share the 805 area code with US military facilities in the Marshall Islands.

Before we had all-numeric direct long distance dialing (i.e., before my time), my parents' number began with HUdson 5.

What a bunch of bloody fools, if you ask me.

I would strongly encourage such someones to offer a competitive bid when the contract is up for renewal. :-P

That's the result of hiring an outside third party to run our IT stuff. There have been several issues caused thereby.

I only see it at work, where we have massive amounts of bandwidth.

The only weird thing I've seen (at least so far) is on the social side, where it sometimes shows the "Here's a picture of a happy puppy" text before the page loads.

Glad to hear you're alive, although I would have been really impressed if you'd been able to post after you were dead. ;-)
