There's a niche market of JDM enthusiasts and collectors here, so I suspect that when something vintage is likely to finally fail the Shaken inspection, it gets put up for sale and shipped Stateside. California has a 30-year rule for smog inspection exemption, so it probably dovetails nicely for the well-maintained stuff.

Conversely, there are a couple of people near me who are apparently into JDM (Japanese domestic market) models. One guy has a classic Nissan Bluebird (Datsun 510) SSS coupe, and someone about a block from my house has what appears to be a RHD Toyota Land Cruiser J70, complete with Japanese plates.

@kdfrawg Hmmm, let me think…yes. :-)

Just had my third 16-ounce cup of coffee today, and I think I can hear the universe vibrating. #moarcoffee

You might see if Verizon can give you a new SIM card to try first, though, before dealing with anything more major.

If your friend's iPhone is a Verizon model, that should do it.

The oh-so-glamorous aspects of my job: because I have to test something, I have now taken the same section of a survey 175 times. I will have taken it 419 times before I'm done. :-/

Those people are quite mad, all of them. If I was going to deal with Japanese roads in a LHD car that's that big, I'd rather have a Mercedes.

That's one of the advantages of living in Japan.

Also, the ugliest vehicle on four tires was the Pontiac Aztek.
