@kdfrawg I'm on the verge of making a strategic withdrawal from the world of 24-hour news myself. As anyone who knows me can tell you, that's staggering.

//

@kdfrawg There's abstraction and subjectivity, but it's a subjective subject (disclaimer: I'm speaking here purely for myself, not the company, and my function in the company is not research, so I'm not a qualified professional).

I can't speak to everything that goes into it, but we get criticized a lot for including things like problematic navigation and "infotainment" systems in quality ratings. There's a reason for that. If you have a hardware issue, it's easy to fix; if you have a software or design issue, it's going to irritate the average consumer for the next 5-6 years of ownership. The reality is that most people don't have major problems with cooling or braking anymore, so the little things have come to the fore.

As for bankruptcy, that's more likely to come from your dealer's bill for scheduled maintenance. :-)

@kdfrawg Bear in mind that "average" in today's market is pretty damn good. We've come a long way since the bad old days of the 1970s.

@kdfrawg Here's a somewhat detailed answer about how we do it: http://www.jdpower.com/cars/about

And here's a hopefully useful graphic:

Go to a nice air-conditioned library. Or a nice air-conditioned coffee shop.

I wouldn't make any plans to visit Istanbul for a while, if I were you.

There’s a coup d’etat in Constantinople,
But it’s Istanbul, not Constantinople
When the planes fly low o’er Constantinople
There’s a mutiny in Istanbul

@kdfrawg My Twitter stream lately has consisted of black Americans worrying about being killed by police, Muslims worrying about being demonized for the acts of the few, and well-off white people trying to catch Pokemon. I know which of the three I find the least compelling.

//

@kdfrawg I find it much more entertaining to fire up Flightradar24 and point my phone at the sky to see where all those planes are headed, and where they came from. Travel! Romance! Imagination!

Waiting to find out if the project that's supposed to land on my desk today will arrive on time, or if I'll be making this a half-day. It's like waiting for Christmas.
