True story: When I was at UCSB, back in 2001, I partitioned the drive on my iBook G3 and installed a PPC version of Linux. It worked mostly OK, sort of, except when I woke it from sleep, it would at random times emit an ear-piercing shriek at high volume that could only be stopped by a forced reboot.
