Looks like my brother (a member of the Teamsters union) may be going out on strike. Contract negotiations with his employer are not going well. A Federal mediator was brought in today, and a strike vote is scheduled for Thursday.

@hazardwarning True story: When I was at UCSB, back in 2001, I partitioned the drive on my iBook G3 and installed a PPC version of Linux. It worked mostly OK, sort of, except when I woke it from sleep, it would at random times emit an ear-piercing shriek at high volume that could only be stopped by a forced reboot.

@streakmachine The Year of Linux On The Desktop was actually in 2007, but it was canceled and postponed indefinitely due to a corrupted xorg.conf file and trouble getting the wireless working. All attempts at a resolution have been met with repeated exhortations to RTFM.
