@hazardwarning There's a lot of America outside the big cities. You'd have a lot to choose from. I find the older I get, the less I want to be in the cities. My wife and I are fond of the Southwest, and love to go to places that might reasonably be described as being in the middle of nowhere.
@hazardwarning We like to think so. The tourists mostly flock to Santa Barbara (though we do get some), but I like it better down here. Less attitude, more "normal".
@hazardwarning Yes, we see a few of those in the harbor up in Santa Barbara. Most impressive. Ventura is decidedly more working-class; we mostly get fishing boats, whale-watching boats, trawlers, and small sailboats like the one my brother is buying. And the occasional naval or Coast Guard vessel.1
Funny story about the Navy--some years ago, they were conducting tests of a highly classified "stealth ship" in the waters offshore, and put a blurb in the local Notice to Mariners that basically said, "there's nothing out there. But if you see it, let us know." :-)
@hazardwarning The best part is, after 20 years of us living on opposite sides of the United States, he'll now be living on a boat in Ventura Harbor, 10 minutes away by car. Which means I can go sit on his boat and drink his beer this summer. :-)
@matigo For now, he'll be happy just using it to live aboard and cruise out to the Channel Islands on the weekend (not the ones in the English Channel, the ones in the Santa Barbara Channel). :-)
@matigo It might be a tad small for a trans-Pacific, but in theory, yes. However, he's mostly planning to just live on it.
Big day for the Anderson boys--my brother just put down a deposit on this, subject to a favorable survey and sea trial.
@streakmachine Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Also got the marks on the desk from pounding it with the mouse in frustration.
@matigo FYI…work isn't blocking my 10Cv5 page anymore. :-)
Is there a way to follow other 10Cv5 users yet?
