The City of Ventura has declared a citywide curfew from 10pm to 5am until further notice. We are also being advised to boil tap water before drinking it or cooking with it.

Have learned that some old family friends of my wife have lost their home to the fire, as well as some other buildings on their ranch.

No evacuation order yet, but cars are packed.

Still OK here, but mandatory evacuations keep getting closer.

@kdfrawg Staying safe. Currently about 1/2 mile from the closest voluntary evacuation zone. Prepared to bug out if necessary. But damn, this town has been hit hard…

I'm safe, and hope to stay that way, but the Thomas Fire is legitimately terrifying. Ventura will never be the same. Power has been out for hours, and constant helicopters overhead. Homes burning downtown.. Getting ready to evacuate if necessary.

@kdfrawg You wouldn't have a problem. They use Celsius. :-)

It has only proven hard to resolve if you're an American. The rest of the world got over it a long time ago.

My second-favorite part of the day1 is when the people in the East Coast offices have gone home and things quiet down.

  1. My favorite part of the day is when I'm driving home.

It's 3:00 PM. Now that I've dealt with all the other bullshit that people have been lobbing at me, I can finally work on what I've been trying to do since I got here at 7:00 AM. Good thing there's coffee. Mmmm, coffee.™
