Aral Balkan (the creator of Better for iOS and Mac) put out a call this morning for people to join him on Mastodon.social, which is a GNU Social instance. He's getting some response, too. Lots of people seem ready for whatever will succeed Twitter.

@kdfrawg Rather dull, I imagine. :-)

I'm one of those people who never underlines anything in books, so that hasn't been an issue for me.

When I was in college, I had to make an extreme effort to overcome my reluctance to write in books, even textbooks. Something about it just goes against my grain. Just one of my quirks, I guess.

// @kdfrawg

@kdfrawg My perspective is that the touch screen only needs to be good enough to recognize when I'm trying to turn a page or go back to the home screen. Mine manages those well enough, so I'm happy. Of course, I do all my ebook management through Calibre on my laptop, so I'm the outlier.

@kdfrawg As long as it's still in good working order, I wouldn't bother.

Yes. Technically, you declare a party preference. With our current system of open primaries, the only difference it makes is that you can vote for local party committees, and in the Presidential primary for that party. Independent voters can request a ballot for a particular party, but some parties (notably the GOP) restrict their ballots to those registered with that party, which they are allowed to do under California law.

// @skematica

@skematica Eh…I'm currently a registered Green, but I'm not a fan of Jill Stein.

Anyway, in our current setup, third parties never have much of a chance. I may be registered Green, but in the current environment--particularly if the election goes badly--I think the left is better off coalescing behind the Democratic banner to fight the right wing, rather than dividing. We can have the usual left-wing circular firing squad later. You just have to look at the GOP to see where ideological purity tests lead. They should serve as a cautionary tale.

@skematica Haven't seen it yet. Details?

@skematica I thought you might find that interesting.
