When I was in Berlin in 1981, I remember being surprised when I tuned in to Radio Berlin International (Voice of the German Democratic Republic!) on my pocket transistor radio (medium-wave) and hearing an announcer with an Irish accent. Apparently they had quite the motley crew of international defectors on staff.

Especially during the Cold War--was always a thrill to hear what in the late 70s/early 80s felt like an enemy broadcast.

Please talk to them and get them to switch. :-)

I can so identify with this.

Back before the Internet, I used to go out to the garage late at night and tune in stations from around the world on my shortwave radio. Radio Moscow, Radio Nederland Wereldomroep, Deutsche Welle, and of course the BBC. Occasionally I'd pick up Beijing. The world was a much bigger place then.

It's amazing what bounces around the atmosphere sometimes.

My company's overly aggressive Internet filtering is driving me insane.

Don't know about inversions, but it's been unseasonably warm the last couple of days.

You can read about how he got that nickname here [phoneboy.com].

I used to enjoy listening to KGO radio years ago, late at night, especially Dr. Bill Wattenburg. It was pretty easy to pick up down here after dark.
