Just in case this area hasn't had enough to deal with, there's a growing fire that's about to jump US 101 and the Highway Patrol is about to close the freeway, which also happens to be the most direct route home for me.

<sigh>

Indeed.

Found out that someone in our office who sits just a few cubicles away from me was in Borderline at the time of the shooting last night. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed. He's out today for obvious reasons.

Yes, they need to stop. They won't. We lack the courage to take the actions necessary to stop them. Until Americans stop fetishizing weapons, innocent blood will continue to be spilled.

Drove past the shooting scene this morning on my way to work. Not much to see from the freeway, except a lot of crime scene tape, sheriff's deputies, and reporters.

So far, it seems none of my family or friends were there, for which I'm thankful. Don't know yet if any of my colleagues were there. I work with a lot of people in their 20s, so it's possible.

All law enforcement agencies from across the county are responding. EMS teams being dispatched from Los Angeles County. This is beyond what local agencies can handle.

Update: Officer shot multiple times. Dozens of victims shot. Suspect still inside.

Update: Person matching the suspect description down with 3 gunshot wounds.

Mass shooting in my hometown tonight, still in progress. As many as 20 people may be shot, an officer is down and unresponsive. Suspect is not in custody.

I remember that when my dad died in 1975 at the age of 47, everyone was saying how terrible it was for someone to die so young. I was 9 at the time, and didn't understand why everyone kept saying he was so young.

Now that I'm 52, I have a different perspective. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your brother, your sister-in-law, and their family.
